- Set your camera for the highest resolution (12 megapixels or better) for the best cropping opportunities later.
- Carry enough storage (extra SD cards) for anticipated photos of your event or trip.
- Capture in RAW format if possible. This affords even greater post-processing flexibility.
- Set the date and time on your camera to help you remember when you took the picture.
- Turn on the GPS feature to help you remember where you took the picture.
- Learn and use the rule of thirds.
- People!! People love to see themselves in photos even when they say they don't.
- When photographing, “pre-focus” by depressing your shutter release half-way to reduce shutter lag and improve your chances of great action shots.
- Phones take great pictures these days. Don’t be shy about using those photos in your photo book.
- Unless you really want a black & white or off-color image, avoid “photo enhancers” or “filters” as these actually strip content from your photos and can make them look unnatural. The “natural” feel is irretrievable after enhancing.
- Use a monitor display calibration device when you do any editing of your images.
- Share the originals for anyone to process!
