The photo effects achieved by cell phone cameras, and various apps, produce some very attractive and cool images. When compared to the original image, the “filtered” image is often stunning to the eye. Whereas the original is bland.
So why does Build Your Tour ask for original image files “straight from the camera”?
A good rule of thumb is to always start your photo book using the largest pixel size photos as possible as it allows greater flexibility and more options. The filtered image on the left measures about 625 x 450 pixels while the original on the right measures 3264 x 2448 pixels.
The image on the left will print well to size of about 1.5 x 2 inches. It cannot be enlarged. The image on the right prints to about 10 x 8 inches. It can be cropped and reduced. (For more on image sizes and DPI print sizes read http://howtoscan.ca/photo-scan-resolution.html.)
Additionally, only minor adjustments can be applied to the filtered image. You’ll essentially get what the photo effect program gave you.
Fortunately, original image processing options are versatile and nearly limitless. We can therefore achieve the high-quality, individualized, consistent and natural appearance, or special effects, you want in your printed photo books and preserve your originality.
