We love those Amazon Local and Groupon deals that pop into our mailboxes every now and then. There are some great deals. We’ve had some great meals. And the photo book deals can’t be beat. Right?

Well, sometimes not right. Watch out for a few of the “gotchas” we’ve noticed when reading the fine print on photo book offerings.

Low prices are often offered with limitations such as:

  • A 20 page book (10 sheets) with extra pages costing up to $1.00 per page for 81/2 x 11 pages.
  • A specific size book (e.g. only the 7×7). Sometimes you can apply your discount to a larger size, sometimes you can’t.
  • Minimal shipping fee on the small size and additional shipping for the larger sizes.
  • Specific type of cover with no options.

Most offer “archival” or “thick paper” and “easy tools.” (Read our other blogs on some of the online book design tools we’ve used.) Look for the offers that allow you to upsize easily, add up all the costs you think you’ll encounter and make sure that you’re willing to pay the price before you purchase your coupon. Now go design!
