The Silver Road Half Century rides over Guanella Pass to raise money for charity, June 30th, 2013.

The Silver Road Half Century is a new bicycle event for charity that will cross over Guanella Pass from Georgetown to Grant, CO and return on June 30th, 2013.  The ride travels 48 miles along Guanella Pass Road, climbing a total of 6500 vertical feet.  The Guanella Pass Road follows the historic wagon road that linked the silver mining towns of Georgetown and Grant.  Just as the miners were challenged making the trip in the 1800s, riders will experience everything from beautifully paved roads, long cruising descents and amazing scenery to steep, challenging climbs, high altitudes

and sections of graded dirt road. Their journey will take them over ~11,700 ft. Guanella Pass, not once but twice.

To enter the event riders are asked to raise money to benefit several great causes.  Colorado Lungs4Life will be at the aid stations along the route keeping riders fed and hydrated.  A portion for the donation will benefit their mission in raising money for lung cancer research.  In addition donations will benefit The Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson’s, The Georgetown Trust for Conservation and Preservation and Bicycle Racing Association of Colorado Junior Program.  Riders will be able to create a personal donation webpage when they register at www.Prerace.com.  Free jerseys and wind vests from Pactimo will be awarded to riders reaching fund raising targets. After the ride, participants will enjoy live music, sponsor expo and a Tommy Knocker beer garden at City Park in Georgetown.  More information at: www.silverroadhalfcentury.com.

The ride takes place in conjunction with the The Guanella Pass Hill Climb powered by Mountain Goat Bars.  This is a race from Georgetown to the summit. It is sanctioned by USA Cycling and includes categories for citizens up to pros. Information on this event is at: www.guanellapasshillclimb.com.
