Da Vinci at 2013 NAHBS

2013 NAHBS Parking

The 2013 North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS), held in Denver this February, was pure “eye candy.”  On display — city, track, mountain, cross, and tandem beauties made from carbon fiber, steel, titanium, magnesium, bamboo and douglas fir.  There were bicycles designed by Craig Calfee to  tour in Uganda (see www.bamboosero.com); by Rich Gangl, dubbed “the finest frame builder and painter you’ve never heard of” by bikeradar.com; and by Brian and Todd with their four chain ring, eight rear sprocket design giving a range of 18 to 140 gear-inches on their da Vinci tandems.  A stunning, highly reflective pink to purple fade machine was chrome-plated everywhere except the tires (yes, solid chrome-plated disk wheels) but whispered ‘don’t touch me.’  Check out the Award Winners.

Beyond bicycles we touched jerseys, shorts, socks,

shoes, caps, bags, wheels, tires and carbon drive belts.  A variety of bicycle magazines were represented too.  We also visited with a Deputy Director of the Japan Bicycle Promotion Institute – the loneliest booth at the show –  and BikeDenver a local organization promoting and encouraging bicycling as an energy efficient, non-polluting, healthy, and enjoyable transportation alternative within the City and County of Denver.
When you get the chance, don’t miss the NAHBS!
Thanks for reading.
